EWV 0829-2009, Apricot Weekend Vest

Started: August 29, 2009
Finished: August 30, 2009
This vest was the ultimate weekend project; I started and finished it in one weekend!! Of course, it helped that it's super bulky yarn and size 15 needles - but we don't need to focus on that part; I'm trying to build up some knitting mojo.
It was super easy and mindless knitting and went perfectly with Wrong Turn (yes, I know it's an awful movie), The Departed, Saturday Night Live and Casino Royal. That's how long it took me to make this vest. Let's add that up:
- Wrong Turn = 84 minutes
- The Departed = 151 minutes
- Saturnday Night Live = 60 minutes
- Casino Royal = 144 minutes
- Total = 7.32 hours
That's pretty darn good for me considering my lack of knitting mojo as of late. I'd like to make another one, but longer. Oh yeah - that'd be hot! :) I also buckled down and made a necklace (EWV 0830-2009) to go with my quick-knit vest. I think it turned out pretty decently.

EWV 0320-2009, Horseshoe Sweater (Vest)
I finished the little sweater that I started near the beginning of this year; but, unfortunately, I just don't like the way it turned out:
I think (or at the very least, I hope) it turned out so poorly because it was a serious stash buster project; like ... the yarn was really crappy. Normally, I'm not a yarn snob and will knit with whatever I can get my hands on and/or can afford. But this stuff? Honestly, I can't even remember where I got it. Surely, I wouldn't *buy* something like this?
As crappy as the yarn was and as awfull as the project turned out, at least one good thing became of this venture: It kept me knitting.

EWV 0823-2009, Mule Socks
I had some leftover yarn from EWV 0314-2009 (Ankle Socks), but not enough for another pair of socks - at least, another pair of standard socks. So I decided now was the time to try to write my own pattern, and of course start with something super easy. Remember that video tutorial I posted about toe-up cast-on techniques? I used it to start my pattern for a mule sock. Something small. And easy, I'd hoped.
I started with the long-tail toe-up cast-on on Aug 23rd, which was a bit of pain in the ass to honest because the stitches were so tight. And I thought my cast-on was loose!! Notwithstanding, I got it to work and was almost finished the sample mule sock that day:
Two days later, the sample sock was finished:
And so there ended my first attempt at pattern writing. Here are lessons that I learned:
- I can write a pattern if I put my mind to it.
- Next time, cast on EVEN LOOSER.
- Next time, bind off WAY LOOSER. :)
- Next time, make the mule sock shorter and the cuff ribbing a little longer.
- Next time, don't work a decrease when switching to the cuff ribbing. For some reason, I thought that the cuff would have no staying power with the same amount of stitches as the rest of the foot.
Now that I've written the pattern and as a means of pattern proof reading, I'm going to leave it be for a while and then make another sock by reading the pattern only. Hopefully by the time that I do this, I will have forgotten what I did and have to solely rely on the pattern to make the sock.
Check out Ms. Vera; she has a new habit of sprawling out on her belly when she eats. The only way I can get her to sit up is to elevate her food. But I've stopped that because her vet says there no harm in her habit.
